Once again we have failed to release our newsletter on the first of every
month.  No excuses this time, just my laziness.  My apologies.  -Ash

=ELECTIONS=

As all of you know, November of next month America will vote on a new
President.  We would like to hear your opinion on what you think of Bush,
Gore, or any third party candidates (or their Vice-President candidates) 
in the next issue of CY2k!.  After you watch those upcoming debates, or 
visit the candidates websites, E-Mail us at editor@cyc.faithweb.com and 
tell us what you think.

=CHANGES=

We have made some minor changes to the format of the newsletter to make
it easier to read.  We hope you like the new layout!  

As you will have noticed, we have divided the newsletter into THREE 
SECTIONS.  How each E-Mail is divided is listed in the CONTENTS (see 
below).  You will also noticed the contents are condensed, and credits 
have been added to the last E-Mail.

=PRIEST ATTACKS ABORTION CLINIC WITH CAR, AX=

ROCKFORD, Illinois, Oct. 2, 00 (CWNews.com) - A Catholic
priest was arrested on Saturday for allegedly running into
an abortion clinic with his car and then continuing to
attack it with an ax.

Father John Earl, 32, was charged with burglary and felony
criminal damage to property for the incident at the
Northern Illinois Women's Center. There were no injuries
and he was freed after posting $10,000 bail. He was stopped
inside the clinic by the abortionist Richard Ragsdale who
brandished a shotgun.

After a demonstration marking Respect Life Sunday, Joseph
Scheidler, director of the Pro-Life Action League said the
attack damaged the pro-life cause. "It reflects on all of
us; it's not a good thing," he said.

"It's hard to support those kinds of actions when you stand
for life, but we definitely do support him in standing up
for life," Jeff O'Hara, 37, said at Sunday's rally.

Father Earl was removed from his parish by the Diocese of
Rockford pending an investigation in the allegations. The
priest's actions came two days after federal approval of
the RU-486 abortion pill.

=FDA APPROVES RU-486 ABORTION PILL=

WASHINGTON, DC, Sep. 28, 00 (CWNews.com) - The US Food and
Drug Administration on Thursday approved the abortion drug
RU-486 for use in the country, seven years after President
Bill Clinton ordered the agency to review the drug.

Pro-abortion activists trumpeted the decision as a victory
for pro-abortionists. "As we celebrate this victory, we
must remain vigilant," National Abortion and Reproductive
Rights League (NARAL) president Kate Michelman said in a
statement.  "We must ensure that our next president
supports making this important reproductive health option
available to American women," she said. "We must also
return the (US) House (of Representatives) to the hands of
a leadership that will work to expand women's reproductive
health options, not curtail them."

Of the two mainstream political candidates, Vice President
Al Gore, the Democratic candidate, supports abortion on
demand, while Texas Gov. George W. Bush, the Republican,
does not. Bush's father, former President George Bush, had
banned the drug during his term of office.

The drug will be marketed in the US by Danco Laboratories
under the name Mifeprex. One of the key results of the
approval is that the drug can now be administered by
doctors from their offices until the seventh week of
pregnancy rather than requiring a visit to an abortionist.

National Right to Life (NRTL) suggested that there were
political motives behind the FDA action. The group said
that four months after the FDA "recognized
the substantial risks" of the abortion pill, "the FDA has
dropped most of these protections for women's health. What
has changed, other than a four-month campaign of political
pressure by the abortion industry and its allies?"

"It's not only unprecedented for the FDA to approve a drug
with no therapeutic effects, but it's unethical as well,"
said Teresa Wagner of the Family Research Council.

The American Life League called for Congressional hearings.
"The US Congress must resolve to conduct oversight hearings
at once so that the FDA is held accountable for this raw,
inhumane decision that will destroy babies and maim women.
We will not cease our efforts until personhood is restored
to all Americans, and until women are protected from
sadistic Big Abortion," the group said.

=US HOUSE PASSES BORN-ALIVE INFANT PROTECTION ACT=

WASHINGTON, DC, Sep. 27, 00 (CWNews.com) - The US House of
Representatives on Tuesday approved a proposed law that
would protect any child who is breathing after he leaves
his mother's womb, even if it was intended that he die
during an abortion.

The House passed the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act by
380-15. Under the bill, a child is considered born alive if
he is completely extracted or expelled from his mother's
womb and breathes, has a beating heart, and has movement of
voluntary muscles. If all of those conditions are met, the
child is a person under federal law.

Critics of the bill include pro-abortion groups that warned
that naming a breathing child a person if he was the object
of an abortion is a danger to the right to abortion. The
National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League
said the bill "would effectively grant legal personhood to
a pre-viable fetus -- in direct conflict with Roe -- and
would inappropriately inject prosecutors and lawmakers into
the medical decision-making process." Roe is the 1973
Supreme Court decision in the Roe v. Wade case that
legalized abortion on demand.

The framers of act said it is necessary to clarify
misconceptions that could arise out of recent Supreme Court
rulings that ruled specific laws banning partial-birth
abortions were unconstitutional. Rep. Charles Canady,
R-Florida,
the measure's sponsor. "As members of this House, we should
do everything we can to protect the most innocent and
helpless members of the human family."

The US Senate is unlikely to take up the bill in the
remaining days of this Congress, in which case the bill
would need to be acted upon again in the next session.
